Así es el dinosaurio descubierto en Colombia gracias a la paz
For more than 50 years, Colombia's armed conflict severely limited scientific research. Accessing remote areas controlled by armed groups was nearly impossible and extremely dangerous. However, after the 2017 peace treaty with the FARC, scientific exploration experienced a remarkable surge.
The discovery of Perijasaurus lapaz is a testament to this new era. This newly identified dinosaur species, which roamed the Earth before the breakup of Pangaea, was uncovered thanks to the peace treaty. Its name reflects this history: Perijasaurus honors the Perijá region, once heavily affected by the conflict, where its fossils were found, and lapaz—meaning "peace" in Spanish—commemorates the treaty that made the discovery possible.
